Tami Pearsall

Bio
My name is Tami Pearsall, and I am the 6th grade language arts/social studies teacher at CHIME Charter Middle School. I graduated from Cal State University at Northridge with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Administration, and then went on to receive a multiple subject teaching credential. I also completed the course work for a Master’s Degree in Health Administration.

I began my teaching career in 1997 after working for several years in the health care industry. I taught for two years with the Los Angeles Unified School District and another seven years with the Simi Valley Unified School District. While working for Simi Valley Unified, I completed two years of training for the district’s gifted and talented program (G.A.T.E.), and I served on the district’s Literacy Task Force. I received the Golden Bell Award in 2004 for my work with students with special needs.

I believe that a classroom is like a large family. We are all teachers and learners. We can help each other grow as individuals and as a group. In order for a family to function effectively, we must respect all of its members. My goal is to create an environment where everyone will feel safe to participate.

My family means the world to me so when I am not teaching I spend most of my time with them. My daughter, Chelsea is beginning her third year in college and my son, Alex, is beginning his first year at UCLA. I love reading, hiking, water sports, and exercising at the gym. I get up every morning at 4 a.m. and work out at a local gym before beginning my school day.

Homework
Homework will be given everyday except Friday. Assignments will be posted daily on the white board and the school web site. We will go over homework in class so that you will understand each assignment. You will be responsible for all homework assignments. If you are absent, your homework can be sent to the office and picked up by a parent or guardian. Please find a few homework buddies that you can call about homework questions.

Student’s Grades
Grades are based on a total points system. Points will vary depending on the assignment. Points will be given for homework, tests and projects. Earned points will be divided by possible points and multiplied by 100. I do not accept late work unless it is accompanied by a doctor’s note or an extenuating circumstance, and I do not give any extra credit. Students are expected to do the work assigned to the best of their ability and turn it in on time.
