Biography
Aloha! Welcome to a wonderful 2007-2008
school year at Chime Charter Middle School. My name is Jennifer Lyn and I’ll
be one of the 7th grade homeroom teachers, a 7th grade math and Spanish
teacher, as well as one of the 8th grade math teachers. This is an exciting
year for me because it is my first year at Chime. I received my Bachelor of
Arts degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Biology and my
multi-subject credential at California State University, Northridge.
Currently, I am working on my supplemental math credential and master’s at
CSUN.
Before arriving at
Chime this year, I was a 6th grade teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School
District for 5 years. I taught math, science, reading, and social studies to
a variety of students ranging from ELL (English Language Learners) students
to SDC students. I also was a 7th grade math teacher and 8th grade physical
science teacher for two different schools within the district.
I believe that every
student can succeed in school and life as long as the teacher, parents, and
students work together to create a plan that is best suited for that
individual student. Each student might learn differently, but they are still
receiving the same information together. I believe in a hands-on approach
and keeping the students engaged in learning. My main goal is to create a
safe learning environment where students are not afraid to ask questions and
answer questions. My classroom is run by this philosophy,” We are all on
this boat together and if one individual falls off the entire class sinks.
We respect one another’s opinions and thoughts as an individual human
being.”
When I am not teaching,
all of my time is spent with my two beautiful daughters. I have a four year
old daughter named Gabriela and a two year old named Caroline. I spend a lot
of time engaging them in art activities, playing soccer, and going to the
park. I am an avid softball player and have been playing this sport for 20
years. I love to be outdoors, go shopping, and go to the gym before school.
Homework
Homework will be given everyday and
occasionally on Fridays. Assignments will be posted daily in the classroom
and on the school website. You will be responsible for all homework
assignments. Students cannot turn in assignments late. If you are absent,
your homework can be sent to the office and picked up by a parent or
guardian. Please get the phone numbers of your pod group, so you can call
about the homework and any questions you might have.
Grades
Grades are based on a
total points system. Points will vary depending on the type of assignment.
Points will be given for homework, tests, quizzes, warm-ups, and projects. I
do not accept late work unless it is accompanied by a doctor’s note or an
extenuating circumstance. Students are expected to do the assignment to the
best of their ability and turn it in on the due date. Extra credit is only
given to pod groups at the end of the week.
